The Deaf and Partially Hearing (DPH) Team sits within the wider Tower Hamlets Learning Advisory Service (LAS), working in close partnership with other special educational needs and disability (SEND) services and with a range of health professionals across the borough.

We are a large, dedicated team of Deaf specialists including qualified Teachers the Deaf Children and Young People (QToD’s), a Deaf Tutor/BSL teacher and a family support worker.  We provide high-quality advisory support for children and young people (CYP) who are deaf aged 0–25, promoting inclusion, independence, access to learning, and improved outcomes across early years settings, schools, colleges, and the home environment.

    The Role

We have an upcoming part time vacancy from September 2026. We are seeking a skilled and experienced QTOD who can work in an advisory capacity within a diverse, multi-cultural environment. You will bring your current or recent teaching experience and extensive knowledge of special needs and disability to the role, delivering a statutory service to vulnerable children and young people.

As an Advisory QTOD, you will:

    • Manage a case list of babies, children and young people.
    • Support mainstream schools and settings to develop inclusive practice for deaf learners.
    • Provide specialist advice, modelling effective strategies and interventions to ensure effective inclusion.
    • Deliver high‑quality training, including whole‑school INSET.
    • Enjoy working in a team and working collaboratively with audiology, health partners, and other SEND teams.
    • Travel to a range of settings across the borough (travel or essential car user allowance provided).

    What We Offer

For candidates with the right qualifications, skills, and experience, we offer:

    • Salary: Main scale / UPS + TLR 2B + SEN 2 (for those holding the mandatory QToD qualification).
    • Potential Earnings: For a UPS 3, with Mandatory qualification teacher working full-time, the equivalent salary could be up to £71,020 per annum. Pro-rata
    • Travel: A travel allowance or essential car user allowance is available to support the peripatetic nature of the role.

    Who We Are Looking For

    The ideal candidate will:

    • Be an exceptional communicator with significant experience supporting Deaf CYP across a range of educational settings including homes.
    • Have a wider knowledge of special educational needs (SEN) and a strong commitment to inclusive education.
    • Be well-organised, proactive, and able to work effectively within a team.
    • Be a self‑driven and dedicated practitioner who is passionate about ensuring every deaf child and young person in Tower Hamlets is supported to achieve the best start to adulthood

If you believe you have the skills and experience required for this role and are excited about working in a dynamic borough like Tower Hamlets, we would love to hear from you!
