  • About The Role

  • We have an exciting opportunity to recruit 6 Support Youth Workers on 15 hours per week for our Rapid Response team within Young Tower Hamlets.

This is an exciting time to join Tower Hamlets Youth Service.

A key priority within the Tower Hamlets Council Strategic Plan 2022-2026 is to transform and improve services for young people in the borough.  We are ambitious about ensuring that all young people in the borough have access to a diverse range of youth work opportunities and support through the delivery of a high-quality youth service, this includes:

    1. Rapid Response Team - detached youth work team providing a preventative and responsive approach to harm outside the home.
    2. Universal ‘safe spaces’ in every single ward throughout the borough where young people can stay safe, participate in positive activities and educational opportunities as well as access additional support from youth workers.
    3. Targeted youth support for vulnerable young people and their families.
    4. Commissioning of specialist youth provision for specific groups of young people and universal youth provision.

The Detached Youth Worker plays a vital role in delivering targeted, street-based interventions across Tower Hamlets. Working under the guidance of the Senior Youth Worker, the post holder contributes to the borough’s response to serious violence, antisocial behaviour, knife crime, and gang-related issues.
This role requires a skilled and adaptable practitioner who can work safely and effectively in high‑risk environments, delivering high‑quality youth work while maintaining a strong and visible presence within the community. The Detached Team provides both preventative and responsive interventions, including location-based assessments to enhance safety for young people at neighbourhood level. Deployment is informed by referrals, intelligence, and local information.
The post holder will also contribute to mediation, community reassurance, and partnership work with statutory and voluntary organisations to ensure high‑quality service delivery and positive outcomes for young people aged 11–25. The role requires regular evening and weekend work outdoors in all weather conditions.

    Role Requirements:

    • Support Senior Youth Workers with planning, delivering, and reviewing the Detached Team offer while leading high‑quality frontline detached and outreach sessions.
    • Maintain the safety and wellbeing of young people and volunteers by following risk assessments and procedures, completing all required session records, and escalating safeguarding concerns promptly.

    • Build strong voluntary relationships in community settings, deliver one‑to‑one and group work, manage a caseload, and provide targeted interventions that promote safety, wellbeing, and personal development.

    • Work with multi‑agency partners to address harm in local areas, support mediation to reduce tensions, and contribute to community reassurance by attending real‑time incidents where safe.

    • Model inclusive, anti‑discriminatory practice, maintain clear boundaries, use restorative approaches, and ensure all work reflects youth work values, equality, and social justice.

    • Participate in meetings, supervision, training, and quality assurance; stay up to date with legislation and best practice; and undertake additional duties as required, including working evenings and weekends.
